3D Printed Mini-Rack (Part 1) The Rack

I've been on a mission for the last few months to downsize from loud and power hungry homelab equipment and the trendy thing to do these days is to fit your homelab into a 10" mini rack enclosure. I wanted to take that one step further and also 3D print the whole thing.

Old Equipment

HPE Server

This thing is loud, heavy and power hungry.

NAS

My unraid NAS is built into my old PC case.

The plan for the HPE server is to downsize to three micro form factor computers (yet another trendy thing) and the plan for the NAS is to rebuild it on a Mini ITX board right into the 10" system. Each component like the motherboard, drive bays and power supply will end up having their own rack brackets.

The New Rack

What I have printed so far is the rack with 12 rack units of space. This design has the ability to expand in height, which I may need in future.

There are a handful of fully 3D printable 10" rack systems online. I decided to go with the KWS rack. I cant remember why... but I also dont regret it. It seems rock solid!

I wanted to choose a colour that wasn't black or white and that wouldn't look too bad if it was sitting in my living room.

With the help of my GF I landed on 'Misty Blue' in PETG from BambuLabs
